Freda Stoecker, age 76 of Eagle Bend, Minnesota, passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2004 in Minneapolis. Freda Carkhuff was born on June 23, 1928 to Valentine and Henrietta Carkhuff in Iowa Falls, Iowa. On August 29, 1945, she was united in marriage with Leo Stoecker in Wadena, Minnesota. Freda lived most of her married life in and around the Eagle Bend area. She and Leo have lived in Eagle Bend for the past 30 years. In addition to her work at home, Freda also owned and operated a restaurant, decorated cakes and provided seamstress services. She also served her community as a member of the Eagle Bend American Legion Auxiliary. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing and quilting, ceramics, cake decorating, crafting and collecting mushrooms and owls.

Freda was preceded in death by her parents Valentine & Henrietta; sons Auggie, Raymond, Randy and Jerry; and brothers Raymond, Ben, Harry, Frances and Lester. She is survived by her husband of 59 years Leo; son Rick (Nita) of LeCenter, MN and daughter Roberta (Todd) Mathisen of Ramsey, MN; 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; brother Vern Carkhuff of Omaha, NE and sister Elizabeth Lorentz of Wadena.

Services at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Bend are presided over by Reverend Walter Brill. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Berry and Norm Vanderpoel. Pallbearers are Skeeter Carkhuff, Jeff Carkhuff, George Lorentz, Dan Lorentz, Tom Voller and Jerry Dahms. Interment is in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Eagle Bend.
