Raymond Elmer Carkhuff was born in Popejoy, Iowa to his parents Valentine & Henrietta (Lantsky) Carkhuff. They later moved to the Wadena area. Ray served in the US Army from 1942 to 1945. He was united in marriage to Leona C. Kupfer on May 21, 1946 in Bluffton. He worked as a farmer, truck driver at Polman Transfer and in the job service section of the Minnesota CEP office. Ray enjoyed fishing, playing cards, hunting and spending time with his family. He was well known for his teasing ability. Ray was preceded in death by his parents; son Roger; brothers Ben, Francis, Harry & Les. He is survived by his wife Leona of Wadena; daughters Mary (John) Blom of Little Falls, Sue (Galen) Hieb of Wadena, Joyce (Jarel) Hieb of Wadena & Trish (Bruce) Steinkopf of Wadena; sons Fr. Tom, osc of St. Paul, Bill (Diane) of Alexandria, Jim (Laurie) of Wadena & Mike (Renee) of Shakopee; 25 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters Elizabeth Lorentz of Wadena & Freda (Leo) Stoecker of Eagle Bend; brother Vern of Omaha and a sister-in-law Virginia Carkhuff of Norway, Iowa. Burial with full military honors will take place at the Calvary Cemetery in Wadena, Minnesota.
