Last Veteran of Dows G.A.R Post Dies in N.Y. - Charles H. Selleck, 93, old time resident of Dows and a Civil War veteran died in New York Saturday.

Mr. Selleck was born at Watertown, New York and served from 1862 - 1865 in the 10th New York horse artillery. He came to Iowa after the war and lived in this vicinity for many years. He was the only surviving veteran of the Watson-Beach G.A.R. post at Dows. For many years he lived in the Soldier's Home at Lakefield, Minnesota and each year came to Dows for Decoration Day. Then in July he traveled to the G.A.R encampment in New York, the oldest of his regiment to make the long trip alone.

Last year he missed Decoration Day here for the first time as he went earlier to the G.A.R. encampment in New York to attend special honors for his regiment. His only surviving brother, Will F. Selleck lives in Dows.

The body will arrive here the latter part of the week and funeral arrangements will be made at that time.
