Mrs. Mary Grandgeorge, born Mary Emma Raver, daughter of James and Josephine Raver, was born October 29, 1883 at West Liberty, Iowa, and passed away Sunday, June 11 at the Sisson nursing home in Humboldt, Ia., at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 18 days.
She attended school in West Liberty and upon completing her education went to Des Moines to work. It was here she met and married August Grandgeorge, December 20, 1903. To this union was born seven children. The family moved to Woolstock, Iowa where they farmed for several years, moving finally to Eagle Grove where they made their home for many years.
She followed her Lord in baptism as a young girl and upon moving to Eagle Grove became a member of the Church of the Open Bible where she filled the office of a deaconess in the church.
Mr. and Mrs. Grandgeorge celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary December 20, 1953.
She was preceded in death by her husband, August, and two sons Elwood and Harold; also by three brothers and one sister. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Roy Madison of Woden, Iowa, and Mrs. Arthur Root of Washburn, Iowa; also three sons Ernest of Iowa Falls, Francis D. of Badger, and Dale of Van Nuys, Calif. She is also survived by one brother C. A. Raver of Des Moines and one sister Mrs. Mattie Schmidt of Glenwood, Arkansas. She had 21 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Grandgeorge was injured critically in a car accident on December 1, 1959 and was not able to return again to her home. She moved from the hospital to the Sisson Nursing home April 17, 1960 and made her home there until her death. She had a long painful time of recovery following the accident but evidenced great faith and a will to get well. It was during this time she suffered the loss of her husband and her son. In spite of her own trials, she spent hours writing letters to others, cheering them whom she considered less fortunate than herself. She never complained and always had a cheery smile and joke for everyone. She spent many hours also with her hobby which was doing crochet work which blessed the homes of many.
Mrs. Grandgeorge will be deeply missed by her neighbors, relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Church of the Open Bible with Dr. Lloyd W. Meyer officiating. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.
