Gladys Anne Bernard was born October 7, 1904, to Adolph and Caroline Marshall Bernard in Woolstock, Iowa. She attended rural schools in Woolstock and moved to Eagle Grove in the second grade. She graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1921. In January of 1923, she was united in marriage to Winfield C. Comstock in Eagle Grove. She taught school in Eagle Grove and in the Woolstock and Vincent rural areas. She lived in the Eagle Grove area her entire life. She was a charter member of Alpha Delta Kappa Teacher's Sorority, a member of the KYN Club, and a charter member of the Worth While Class. She attended the French Church as a child and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove where she was active in church circles, United Methodist Women, and served on the Board of Missions.

Gladys Anne Comstock died Monday, September 29, 1997, at Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove at the age of 92. Survivors include a son, Robert W. Comstock, and wife, Phyllis, of Eagle Grove; two daughters, Miriam G. Thompson, and husband, Arden, of Eagle Grove, and Phyllis A. Kist, and husband, Dr. Richard J. Kist, of Clinton; 14 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Winfield; three brothers; and two sisters.

Funeral services were held on Friday, October 3, 1997, at 10 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove with the Reverend H. W. Schiller officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Willim Funeral Home, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
