Bernice Arlina Johnson was born on August 26, 1901, the daughter of John B. and Agnes L. Smith Johnson, at Kanawha, Iowa. She received her education in rural Kanawha. She was united in marriage to Omer E. Amonson of Eagle Grove, Iowa, on September 17, 1924, at the Riverside Methodist Church in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The couple made their home in rural Eagle Grove before moving to Eagle Grove in 1929. Omer was a self employed trucker. He delivered for Iowa Parcel Service and collected mail that was delivered by railroad freight. Omer died in 1963. Bernice entered the Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove on November 21, 1991. On December 11, 1992, she passed away there at the age of 91 years, three months, and 15 days.

She leaves in passing two sons: Lyle Amonson of Eagle Grove, and Richard Amonson of Clarion, Iowa; three daughters: Bernadine Tuttle of Altoona, Iowa; Marlene Jorgensen and Jean (Mrs. Rodney) Jorgensen, both of Eagle Grove. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, one son, and a great granddaughter. Also preceding her in death were five brothers, and three sisters.

She was a 50 year member of the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove, the U.M.W., honorary member of the Martha Circle, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Past Presidents Club, of the Legion Auxiliary. Bernice spent her free time gardening and took special pride in the photographing of her children and grandchildren at family gatherings.

Funeral services for Bernice Arlina Amonson were held on Tuesday, December 15, 1992, at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove, Iowa. The Reverend Scott C. Hall officiated at the 10:30 a.m. services, and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home was in charge of services.
