Marlene Marie Thompson was born on a farm northwest of Clarion, Iowa on June 14, 1940, to Burton and Elsie (Strietelmier) Thompson. She was baptized at Holmes Lutheran Church and attended Holmes School until she moved with her parents to a farm southwest of Radcliffe in 1950 where she attended country school. In the fall of 1950, Marlene started school in Radcliffe where she graduated in 1958. On June 29, 1961, she was united in marriage to Clayton Claude of Goldfield, Iowa at Salem Lutheran Church near Radcliffe. The couple made their home in Goldfield since their marriage. The past 14 years, Marlene was employed by the Goldfield School as a cook, more recently as head cook. Marlene passed away Thursday, Nov. 23, 1989, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, of cancer, at the age of 49 years, five months and nine days.She is survived by her parents, Burton and Elsie Thompson of Roland; her husband, Clayton Claude, of Goldfield; a son, Gerald and wife Sharon, of Ft. Bliss, Texas; a son, Kelvin, of Goldfield; a brother, Charles Thompson and wife Tilda of Ames; a sister, Caroline and husband Donald Swenson of rural Story City; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 25, at Eagle Grove, at 10 a.m. at Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home. Rev. Victor Victoria of United Presbyterian Church of Goldfield officiated. Burial was in the Glenwood Cemetery at Goldfield.
