Hans H. Dale was born at Benton county, Iowa, Oct. 22, 1869, and died at Rochester, Minn., Sept. 20, 1933 at the age of 63 years, 10 months and 29 days. He was baptized into Christ Jesus, received instruction and confessed his Christian faith. In his early youth he moved with his parents to Story City, where he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage to Mrs. Maggie Johnson at Carroll on Oct. 24, 1897. He entered the service of the C. & N. W. Ry. as brakeman Feb. 26, 1907, at Eagle Grove, and has made Eagle Grove his home since. On Oct. 1, 1912, he was sent up as conductor. He remained in the service at the C. & N.W. until his death. Hans was a faithful friend and dependable servant, a kind husband, a very friendly man to meet. He has a large circle of friends.
He is survived by his dear wife and one stepdaughter, Mrs. Hazel McLain of Chicago; his aged mother, three brothers, viz: Lars of Story City, Annas of Chicago, and Peter of Des Moines; also by three sisters, Mrs. Lena Johnson and Hannah Dale both of Story City, and Mrs. Amelia Amlund of Fargo, N.D.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, Sept. 23, from Kubitschek & Kastler's Funeral Home at 1 o'clock, and from the East Side Lutheran church at 1:30. Burial was made in Rose Hill cemetery [Eagle Grove].
Those from away who were present at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. John Eaton and Mrs. Lou Johnson of Des Moines; Mrs. H. L. Dale, Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Dale and daughter Ruth, Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Jacobsen, Mrs. Laura Linder, Theresa Dale, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Dale, L. L. Dale, A. M. Henderson, L. J. Tjernagel, Paul A. Olson and M. Henderson, all of Story City; Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Dale of Chicago; Mrs. Even Amlund of Fargo, N. D., Hannah Dale of Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. P. B. Dale and Dorothy, Harold, Donald and Phyllis of Des Moines; Mrs. Harry Stark of Ames, and Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Jacobson of Gilbert.
