Norris D. Olson, 84, of Story City, formerly of Eagle Grove, died Sunday, June 8, 1997 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 11 at 2:00 p.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Rev. Franz Schemmel officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
Norris D. Olson was born Nov. 2, 1912 to Lester and Severina (Roseland) Olson at Eagle Grove, Iowa. He attended rural school and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1930, and also was a graduate of Waldorf College in Forest City, and Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. On June 25, 1941 he married Joyce Narland at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Radcliffe. They farmed the family farm near Eagle Grove where they lived until moving to Story City, where they have lived for the past five years. He served on the Farmer's Co-op Board, the Wright County Fair Board and the Waldorf College Board of Regents. He also served as a 4-H leader and a Luther League sponsor and had been a member of the Wright County Association for Retarded Citizens. Norris was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove where he served as Deacon, Sunday School teacher, assistant superintendent, Fellowship president, Lutheran Brotherhood president, and Congregational president.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce of Story City; two daughters, Carmen Joyce Peter and her husband Leonard of Story City and Julia Ann Wentz and special friend, Chris Simoni of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; two sons, Stanley Olson and wife Nancy of Redwood Falls, Minnesota and Kent Olson and wife Linda of St Paul, Minnesota; one brother, Raymond Olson and wife Helen of Thousand Oaks, California; two sisters, Helen Budd of Osage, Iowa and Ruth Kist and husband John of Downers Grove, Illinois; grandchildren, Brian Jones, Rebecca Jones, Maren Olson, Christa Olson, Erik Olson and Marie Olson; and one great-grandson, John Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, John Wentz; and brother-in-law, James Budd.
