Ida Elizabeth Roseland, the daughter of Nels and Ragna Amundson Roseland, was born on a farm near Eagle Grove, Iowa on Dec. 13, 1892. She grew up on the family farm and attended the Eagle Grove area schools. Later, she received her B.A. Degree in Education from the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls. During her junior year at Cedar Falls, she was initiated into Kappa Delta Pi, a national honorary fraternity in Education. She
received her Masters degree in Elementary Education from Columbia University in New York City. She taught school in Eagle Grove, Mason City, Des Moines and Minneapolis, Minn. When she retired, she moved back to Eagle Grove and made her home with her sister, Lillian. For several years she taught Sunday School and also held other positions in the Lutheran church. She was a member of the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church.She died on Sunday evening, Feb. 6, 1983, at the home of her niece, Mrs. James Budd at Osage, Iowa, where she had spent the past several weeks. She attained the age of 90 years, one month and 23 days. Surviving is her sister, Miss Lillian Roseland of Eagle Grove; six nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Mrs. Helen Newman and Mrs. Severina Olson; an infant brother, Arthur Roseland and a brother, Nels O. Roseland.
Funeral services for Ida E. Roseland were held on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 1983 at 1:30 P.M. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. Pastor Paul Schaedig officiated and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Visitation was held at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home on Tuesday.
