Mrs. Amanda Marie Geis, the daughter of Knute and Joren Berven Kirkeberg, was born on June 26, 1889, on a farm in Humboldt County, Iowa. She grew up on the family farm and attended the rural schools. She also attended the Lutheran Ladies Seminary Conservatory of Music at Red Wing, Minn. and graduated in 1910 from the piano teachers course. She graduated from the Columbia School of Music in Illinois in 1912. For several years, she taught music in Eagle Grove and South Dakota. She was a piano accompanist for many years. On August 2, 1920, she was united in marriage with Carl S. Geis at Fort Dodge, Iowa. The couple lived in Chicago, New York and Boston. Mr. Geis was a salesman and later a vice-president of the Pyle National Co. He was forced to retire early in life due to poor health and the couple moved to Chicago. In 1960, they moved to Eagle Grove, to help care for her mother until the time of her death. Mr. Geis died in 1973. Amanda has been a resident of Crestview Manor in Webster City for the past five years, where she died on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 1983 at the age of 93 years, seven months and 12 days. She was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star and past member of the White Shrine.

She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Clara Parker of Sierra Madre, Calif.; a brother, A. M. Kirkeberg of Stanton, Iowa; a niece, Dorothy; five nephews, several great nieces and nephews and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and three sisters.

Funeral services for Mrs. Amanda M. Geis, of Webster City and formerly of Eagle Grove, were held on Friday, Feb. 11, 1983 at 10:30 a.m. at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Pastor Raymond M. Roden of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Webster City officiated and the burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
