Johanna Margarete Willmore passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Trinity Center in Des Moines surrounded by her sons and daughters-in-law. She was 97. Margarete was born on September 17, 1920 in Hollingstedt, Germany to Henry and Marie (Schwaberau) Buck. With her parents she emigrated to the United States in August 1929 becoming a US Citizen in 1943. She attended country school and then entered the Dysart Community School District graduating in 1938. Her husband, Jim, was also a member of the class. They were married on March 17, 1941 – a marriage that lasted 72 years until his death in 2013.

Among many other things, Margarete was a homemaker, bank teller, women’s clothing store manager, and town clerk living in Chicago, Lake Cornelia, Emmetsburg, Jefferson, Eagle Grove, and Hubbard along the way. She retired from the Hubbard town clerk position in 1986. She & Jim wintered in Arizona for 20 years before deciding at age 85, the trip was just too long to make twice a year.

Margarete had a passion for many things – her church, reading, bridge, golf, tennis, and (most of all) walking to name a few. Her deteriorating eye sight eventually prevented her from doing most of the above. She did, however, continue to walk and keep the faith up to the day she passed.

Margarete is survived by her two sons James (Bettje) Willmore and John (Carmen) Willmore, four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and an infant son.
