Another Wife and Mother Gone

Last Friday this community was deeply shocked to learn of the death of Mrs. Fielden, wife of Mr. Lawrence Fielden living a few miles south of Williamsport. A bright little girl was born to Mrs. Fielden about 5 o'clock Friday morning, and a couple of hours afterward the devoted wife and mother passed away. The death was in no way connected with the baby's birth, but was caused by heart disease. Services at the funeral were conducted by Mr. Mabin, after which, by request, a few feeling remarks were made by Senator Worst, whose family and that of Mr. Fielden had for years been near neighbors. Although tidings of the sad bereavement had not reached all parts of the neighborhood, there was a large concourse of sorrowing friends and neighbors in attendance. The funeral sermon was preached at the Fielden schoolhouse, which would not hold all who were present to honor the memory of the departed.

Mary L. Fielden (nee Hagerty) was born Feb. 14, 1859, near the city of Fond du Lac, Wis., and died in the 34th year of her age. She took up her claim and settled in this neighborhood in September 1888, and she and Mr. Fielden were married in Bismarck on Feb. 28, 1884, and came to their Emmons county home the same day.

Mrs. Fielden leaves five children - Lizze, the oldest (so badly crippled by weakness of the spine as to be unable to walk), born Feb. 7, 1885; Nellie, born Nov. 29, 1886; Blanche, born July 1 1888; George Lawrence, born Jan. 29, 1891; Mary Hagerty (the baby), born Aug. 12, 1892. Little Blanche is at Mrs. Worst's, George is with Mrs. Brock and the baby is with Mrs. John F. Geil at Williamsport. Lizzie and Nellie are at home with their father. Mrs. Fielden's aged mother lives with a married sister [Mrs. D. J. Welsh] of deceased at Eagle Grove, Iowa. Another married sister lives at Fond du Lac, Wis.

The death of this devoted wife and mother has cast a deep gloom over this community. It is indeed a sad bereavement.
