Funeral services for Robert "Bob" Mitchell will be held on Monday, July 2, 2018, at 10:30 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Fenton, Iowa with the Rev. Mark Reisner officiating. Visitation services were held on Sunday, July 1, 5-7 p.m.
Robert Bruce Mitchell, the son of Aubrey and Viola (Weisbrod) Mitchell, was born Feb. 10, 1928, in Whittemore, Iowa. He passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Society in Algona, at the age of 90.
He received his education and graduated from Renwick High School in 1945. Bob served in the United States Army during World War II. On Nov. 18, 1951, Bob married Eldora Bierstedt at St. John's Lutheran Church in Fenton, Iowa. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in the Fenton area and Bob owned and operated Fenton Motor Company, he also sold Menard's Buildings, sold cars at Ken Krause and worked for Carroll Implement in Lu Verne. In his leisure time, Bob enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening, mowing yards but most important was spoiling his grandchildren and helping others. Eldora died in 2003. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Fenton.
Bob is survived by his children, Dennis Robert Mitchell and his wife, Mary of Lone Rock, and their daughter, Tessia Rockey; Marilyn Ann Newbrough and her husband, Dave of Lone Rock and their children, Nick and Larry (Melanie); Terry Allen Mitchell and his wife, Caryn of Littleton, Colorado and their children Cailin and Trevor; his sister, Billie Mathes of Dunsmuir, Calif., and his brother, Bryan (Marilyn) Krause of Sioux Falls, S.D. His wife, parents and brother-in-law, Herbert Mathes, have preceded him in death. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Fenton American Legion.
