Genevieve Leota Carter, 93, of Eagle Grove, died Friday, January 13, 2006 at the USA Healthcare in Clarion. Funeral services were held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove with Rev. Mary K. Green officiating. Burial was in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Fort Dodge. She is survived by her son, Mark Carter, and his wife Diane, of Fort Dodge, a daughter Marsha Kelling and her husband. Joe of Eagle Grove, six grandchildren, three step-grandchildren 12 great-grandchildren, four step-greatgrandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1971, three brothers Hugh, Gerald, and Thad, four sisters, Fern Koenecke, Lucille Knudsen, June Kallansrud and Bernice May and an infant sister, Esther Mae.
Genevieve Leota Carter was born October 11, 1912 at Tintah, Minnesota, the daughter of Alan [Allen] B. and Fanny A. (Collins) Boyington. She was raised and educated in Iowa and graduated from Rowan High School in 1931. On January 1, 1937, [1934] she married E. D. Carter at Clarion. The couple lived in Glidden and operated a service station, then operated a movie theater in Fayette, in 1937 they purchased a grocery store in Flkader which they operated until 1946, when they moved to Eagle Grove and started E.D. Carter Excavating and Trenching. E.D preceded her in death on March 5, 1971 She was a 50 year member of the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove, participating in circle. 3m's and Christian Women. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 50 years, Royal Neighbors, Elderbridge RSVP and attended congregate meals. Leota enjoyed traveling, cooking, sewing, and spending time with her grandchildren. The Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove was in charge of the arrangements.
