Services Thursday for Otis Nelson, 85
Funeral services for Otis Nelson, 85, longtime Humboldt historian will be held Thursday at 2 p.m., at Our Savior's Lutheran Church and burial at Indian Mound Cemetery. Masonic services of the Eastern Star Lodge will be on Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. at Lindhart Funeral home. Mr. Nelson died at Humboldt County Memorial Hospital after an illness of five weeks. He is survived by his son, Ned, of Huntington Valley, Penn.; and two daughters; Beverly (Mrs. James) Wilhite of Corwith, and Mrs. Donna Monroe of Sparks, Nev.; two sisters; Mrs. Eva Wagner of Seattle, Wash., and Mrs Lulu Jensen of Auburn, Calif.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Nelson was born Nov. 17, 1891, at Goldfield to Nels and Dora Gilbertson Nelson. He was one of 11 children. He married LaVeta Dickson in 1921 and they lived in Humboldt all their married life and he continued to live in Humboldt following her death in 1968. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Odd Fellows and served as president of the Humboldt County Fair Association. He also served as chairman of the centennial celebration and was active on numerous other civic committees.

Mr. Nelson served as postmaster in Humboldt for thirty years. Before that he was a local merchant. He was associated with local civic and business affairs throughout his lifetime. He will best be remembered by his many ..nds as an active and enthusiastic participant and supporter of athletic competition. He believed in the spirit and the character developed by sports participation and supported all local functions.

He maintained an avid interest in the history of Humboldt County and was a reliable source information regarding historical facts, generously sharing his knowledge whenever asked.
