Donald John Mericle, the son of Irvin and Mabel (Estlund) Mericle, was born on January 14, 1927, in Colfax Township, Webster County, Iowa and he attended country school. Don enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Japan during W.W. II.

Don married Betty Quintus and they had five children: Lynda, Steve, Craig, Kathleen and Keith. He married Eldene Ellsworth and they had a son, Jeff. Don enjoyed many years of farming until his retirement in 1987 and they moved into Eagle Grove. He enjoyed bowling league for many years, was a Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed fishing, especially with his sons. Don was a former member of Samuel Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Eagle Grove V.F.W. and American Legion.

Don passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at Humboldt County Memorial Hospital in Humboldt, at the age of 91 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Keith; sisters, Lorena Dencklau (Lawrence) and Thelma Gleason (Kenny); brother, Floyd Mericle (Jane) and step-daughter, Jody Mericle. Don is survived by his wife, Eldene Mericle; daughters, Lynda Knight of Aurora, CO and Kathy Sheesley and husband Mike of Browns Valley, CA; sons, Steve and wife Renae of Manly, Craig Mericle and wife Kady of rural Plymouth and Jeff Mericle and wife Lisa of Humboldt; step-son, Brian Bjornson and wife Robin of Pomeroy; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Private family services were held on Monday, May 21, 2018. Memorials may be left to the discretion to the family.
