Rev. Johan Lewis “John” Johnson
19 November 1872 --- 16 January 1948

The Reverend J. L. Johnson passed away in Minneapolis on January 16, 1948, at age 75. The Reverend A. G. Lewis officiated at the funeral in St. Anthony Park Church, St. Paul. The Reverend E. I. Strom spoke for the association of retired pastors, a group to which Pastor Johnson had belonged. Burial was in Sunset Cemetery.

Johan L. Johnson was born November 19, 1872, to Nils M. and Margrethe (née Ullensvang) Johnson at Thor, Iowa. He attended Bode Academy in 1890 and Luther College from 1890 to 1893 and 1894 to 1898 (A.B.); and Luther Seminary from 1898 to 1901 (C.T.). He was pastor at Great Falls, Montana from 1901 to 1902; Anaconda, Montana from 1902 to 1903; Wells, Minnesota from 1903 to 1919; near Wakonda, S. Dak. from 1919 to 1924; and at Hayti, S. Dak. from 1924 to 1938. In addition, he was the president of Luther Academy Corp. from 1913 to 1919.

As his health was impaired, he resigned in 1938 and moved to St. Anthony Park, St. Paul, and joined the church there. He was married to Marian Gullickson in 1903. She passed away in 1905. In 1908 he married Josephine S. Olson, who survived him along with two sons: Erling, of Northfield, and Valdemar of Washington, D.C.; two sisters; three brothers; and six grandchildren.
