Funeral services for Walter A. Schroeder, 42, of Dows were held from the First Lutheran church on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with Pastor David A. Anderson officiating. Military ceremonies were held at the Vernon Township cemetery by the Watson-Beach Post of the Dows American Legion. The Willim Funeral Home of Dows was in charge of the arrangements. He died Monday evening at Franklin General Hospital in Hampton, where he was taken Friday afternoon after suffering a heart attack.

Born January 22, 1928 in Vernon Township, he was the son of William M. and Amelia E. Hipp Schroeder and received his education in the area of his birth. He served with the U. S. Army for two years and lived near Williams from 1953 until moving to Dows in 1965 where he was associated with L & H Chevrolet and Impl. Co. In March of this year he purchased one half interest in the Dows Bowl. He was married to Betty J. LaRue on June 13, 1951 at Colorado Springs, Colorado, and she survives with two children, Michael R. and Linda Kay, both at home. Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Amelia Schroeder, Dows, and three brothers and three sisters, Wilbur Schroeder, Williams; Harold Schroeder, Lakewood, Colorado; Melvin, Fort Dodge; Mrs. Harold (Arlene) Montandon, Dows; Mrs. Dale (Erma) Cullinan, Clarion and Mrs. Richard (Velma) Van Gerpen, Dows. There are also several nieces and nephews. He was a member of the First Lutheran church, B. P. O. E. #1674, Iowa Falls and the Dows American Legion. He was preceded in death by his father in 1957.
