6 May 1919 --- 24 June 1996

Leo Heiden, 77, Alden, died June 24, 1986. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 27, at Vernon Lutheran Church, with Pastor Glenn Kappelmann officiating. Burial was at Vernon Lutheran Cemetery in Dows. Elledge Funeral Home in Dows was in charge of arrangements.

Leo Heiden, son of Ernest and Anna Thorman Heiden, was born May 6, 1919 in Vernon Township, Wright County. He was raised in Vernon Township and received his education in the Vernon Township country schools. He entered the Army in 1940, and in 1945, he was honorably discharged. During the time he served with the Army, he was in Germany, France and Belgium. On Aug. 14, 1945, he was united in marriage to Doris Jacques at Lee Center Methodist Church in Franklin County. After their marriage, they farmed in Hamilton County until moving to their present home in 1950. He farmed his entire life around the Vernon Township area.

He is survived by his wife, Doris, Alden; daughters and sons-in-law, Karolyn and Gary Freeman, Rockwell, N.C., Linda and Richard Doyle, Story City; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Jan Heiden, Williams, John and Karen Heiden, Dows; 15 grandchildren; brother, Herbert, Williams; sisters, Vernie Schutt, Clarion, Mabel Schutt, Williams, Goldie Nachazel, Leawood, Kan.; and daughter-in-law, Sandy Heiden, Alden. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Merle; brothers, Fred and Irvin, Sr.; sister, Myrtle; and two grandsons. Mr. Heiden was a member of the Vernon Lutheran Church since childhood and served on the church council.
