Funeral services for Myrtle Rockow, 83, of Dows, were held from the Vernon Lutheran Church on Sunday, May 30 at 3 p.m. with Rev. Harold McMillin officiating. Burial was in the Vernon Township Cemetery. She died Thursday, May 27 at the Dows Care Center where she had been for the past three weeks. The Willim Funeral Home in Dows was in charge of arrangements. She was born at Vernon Township on January 2, 1899 to Ernest and Anna Thormann Heiden. She received her education in Vervon Township. On March 27, 1917 she was married to Edward Rockow at the Vernon Lutheran Church. To this union six sons were born. They lived most of their married lives farming in the Williams and Dows area. In 1964 they retired and moved into Dows. He died in April of 1973. She was a member of the Church Ladies Aid, and various Church Circles.
She is survived by six sons, Lyle of Mason City, Harley of Garner, Irvin of Belmond, Maynard of Alden, Edward J. of Dows, Virgil of Webster City; 21 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters: Mrs. Mable Schutt of Williams, Mrs. Vernie Schutt mof Clarion, Mrs. Goldic Nachazel of Alden and three brothers: Irvin Heiden of Dows, Herbert Heiden of Williams and Leo Heiden of Alden. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother, Fred.
