Funeral services for John Hanson were conducted Friday, Dec. 22, at the Hanson home at Estherville at 1:30 p.m. and at the Immanuel Lutheran church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. L.A. Mathre officiating. Mr. Hanson had been in poor health for some time but his condition was not known to have been as serious as it evidently was. Death came quite suddenly on the evening of his 74th birthday, Tuesday, Dec. 19.
John Hanson was born in Rosendal, Norway, Dec. 19, 1870, the son of Hans and Bertha Hanson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and received both his Christian instruction and public schooling in Norway. At the age of 19 he emigrated to America, coming to Grundy county, Ill., where he spent eight years. Then he moved to [Vincent] Webster county and lived there for the next six years.
In 1897 [Jan. 8, 1897] he was united in marriage to Miss Martha Larson of Webster county. They had ten children. In the year 1903 Mr. and Mrs. Hanson moved to Emmet county. The Hansons have made their home in Estherville for the last two years. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers. Mr. Hanson is survived by his widow and his children, Mrs. John Quastad, Tilla, Clarence, Ernest, Lawrence, Clifford, Melvin and Lester Hanson, Mrs. Stanley Richey and Miss Leora Hanson. There are also 24 grandchildren surviving. Interment was made in the Swan Lake cemetery.
