Mrs. Martha Christine Hanson, 90, of Estherville died at 3:20 a.m. today [Nov. 27, 1968] at the Good Samaritan Center. Her death was caused by infirmities of advanced age although she had been in failing health the past three years. She was born to Mr. Thomas and Mrs. [Sophie] Larson Feb. 15, 1878, in Webster County. She was educated in rural Webster County schools and wed to John O. Hanson on Jan. 8, 1897, at Fort Dodge. Following their marriage they farmed near Vincent, later moving to a farm near Gruver in 1901. They were engaged in farming in this area for many years, but at one time farmed near Superior. In 1940 they retired to Estherville. For many years Mrs. Hanson was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, south of Gruver, but after moving to Estherville joined the Estherville Lutheran Church.

Her survivors are five sons, Earnest, Laurence, Clifford, Melvin and Lester, all of Estherville; four daughters, Mrs. John (Belle) Quastad, rural Estherville; Tilla Hanson, Estherville; Mrs. Stan (Genevieve) Richey, Iowa Falls and Mrs. Ed (Leora) Anderson, Estherville. Mrs. Hanson is also survived by 37 grandchildren and 63 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, a stepmother, husband, a son, three sisters and three brothers.

Family services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Estherville Lutheran Church followed by public services at 2 p.m., the Rev. Stephen Engelstad officiating. Burial is to be at Swan Lake Cemetery. Friends may call at Reese-Henry Funeral Home after 10 a.m. Thursday until noon Friday. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
