The funeral for Lorraine Awsumb, 89, of Morris, Minn., will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, at Kongsvinger Lutheran Church, near Donnelly, Minn., with the Rev. Michael Nelson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral Friday at the church. Burial will be at Kongsvinger Lutheran Cemetery, Donnelly.

Lorraine Johnson, daughter of Carl and Dagna (Alver) Johnson, was born June 23, 1928, in Hardy, Iowa, where she grew up and attended school, graduating from Hardy High School. She was united in marriage to Torgney Awsumb on Oct. 30, 1954, at the Kongsvinger Lutheran Church, near Donnelly.

Lorraine and Torgney made their home in International Falls, Minn., where she was a stay at home mother, caring for the home and children. In 2002, due to Torgney having some health issues, the couple moved to Morris to be near family. Torgney died Sept. 25, 2002. Lorraine continued to live in Morris, spending time at Skyview Court before moving into the West Wind Village.

Lorraine enjoyed listening to music, playing the marble game, watching TV and gardening. She also cherished spending time with family during the deer season and winters snowmobiling. Lorraine and Torgney loved to square dance.

Lorraine died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017, at the West Wind Village, Morris. She was 89 years old. She is survived by two sons, Dean (Yolanda) Thompson, Spain, and Richard Awsumb, Lyle, Minn.; one daughter, Linda Sather, International Falls; one daughter-in-law, Linda Thompson, Oregon; one brother, Winston (Mayva) Johnson, Herman, Minn.; two sisters, Mavis Vorland, Chokio, Minn., and Shirley Kasuske, Ashland, Neb.; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Gary Thompson; her parents; one grandson, Shawn Sather; one brother, Daryl Johnson; and two sisters, Phyllis Smith and Wanda Zamzow. Pedersen Funeral Home, Morris, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
