July 10, 1946 ---- February 22, 2018

Larry Eugene Orr, 71, of rural Rolfe, Iowa, passed away peacefully with his family beside him on February 22, 2018, at Cherokee Specialty Care. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 26th, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Cherokee, Iowa, with Rev. Cris Decious officiating, and burial will be in the Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C. at a later date. There will be a family prayer service at the church at 10:45 a.m. on Monday. Visitation at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa will be on Sunday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., with the family present from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m..

Born the son of Enos and Anna (Williams) Orr on July 10, 1946 in Eagle Grove, Iowa, Larry was raised in Eagle Grove, graduated from Eagle Grove High School, and then enlisted in the Air Force in 1967, where he served until 1987 as a Missile Control Communications Technician. After retiring from the Air Force, Larry was employed at the US Postal Service and retired again fifteen years later.

Larry married Karen Kloberdanz on May 2, 1970. From that marriage, two daughters were born. On March 5, 1989, Larry married Pamela La Fave in Jackson, Minnesota (and her 4 children) and a blended family was formed with Pamela’s four children.. The family lived in Windom and Mountain Lake, Minnesota in the early years of the marriage and then transferred to the Mankato, Minnesota area, where they lived for 20 years.

In 2011, Larry and Pam moved to the country outside of Rolfe, Iowa. Larry loved to travel, go fishing, go to auctions, work in the yard, and go to garage sales, but his happiest times were those spent with the grandchildren he loved so much. Being the grandfather to nine, which included a set of quadruplets, made him an expert in telling stories and entertaining all ages, and he was adored by them all. Larry was adamant that the term “step” was not to be used when referring to his blended family and he treated all the family as one.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Clifford and Wesley Orr; and his sister, Dorothy Siefken [Seifert]. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Pamela, of Rolfe; daughters Barbara (David) Roberts of Fort Valley, Georgia, Denise (Terry) Koob of Humboldt and Nicole (Jamie) Kueker of Fairmont, Minnesota; sons Trevor Cates of Mankato, Minnesota, Ryan Cates of Mankato and Jarad Cates of Garden City, Minnesota; grandchildren Cassandra Green and Cody Koob, both of Humboldt; Tyler Kueker, Darrian Kueker and Ethan Kueker, Cora Rose Kueker, Izabella Kueker, Hope Kueker and Rebekah Kueker, all of Fairmont, Minnesota; and siblings Le Roy Orr and Darlene (Ted) Steffeson [Steffenson] of Eagle Grove, Alta (Arthur) Petersen of Fort Dodge, Charlotte Orr of Milad City, Idaho, Mandy (James) Jorgensen of Apache Junction, Arizona and Marilyn Dingman of Phoenix, Arizona.
