Grace Kathleen Harvey was born October 18, 1925 on the family farm near Goldfield, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Esther (Gangstead) Harvey. She was baptized and confirmed at Lake Lutheran Church in rural Goldfield. Grace attended country school and then graduated from Goldfield High School in 1943. She continued her education at Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa, graduating with a teaching degree in 1945.

Grace met the love of her life, Robert Ray Morris, while teaching 6th grade in Cresco, Iowa. They were married at Lake Lutheran Church on June 15, 1946. Following the ceremony, they left for Ft. Collins, Colorado where Bob had enrolled at Colorado State College. The young couple then moved to Chicago, Illinois where Bob had been accepted to the Illinois School of Podiatric Medicine and Foot Surgery. After his graduation in 1951, Grace and Bob decided to make their home in Storm Lake, Iowa, where Bob set up his private practice as a podiatrist.

Faith was always the center of Grace’s life. Devoted to her Lutheran heritage, Grace belonged to St. Mark Lutheran Church where she was active in the choir, circle, and mission work. She helped in the kitchen for many weddings and funerals.

Grace was a compassionate caregiver all of her life, from helping care for her ill grandmother as a young girl, to caring for her own children and husband, and then later caring for her own mother. She remained a caregiver to many, even when she herself needed extra care. Her loving kindness was known to all.

Music always played an important role to Grace. She was involved in musical productions in high school and college. She was a soloist at many weddings and events. Grace helped direct community musicals and was a long time member of the Melody Club. She passed her love of music to all of her children.

Many people were drawn to Grace’s sparkling personality. She loved people and people loved her. She was a great conversationalist, as well as a wonderful listener. Her wit, sense of humor, and sweetness expanded her friendships to all ages.

Grace was also known to be an excellent cook. Her involvement in 4-H and helping her mother prepare meals developed her culinary skills as a young girl. She was awarded a trip to the Iowa State Fair for her bread making ability. Her family and friends shared many meals that Grace had lovingly prepared for them. She was a gracious hostess and made all her guests feel welcome.

Grace made time for social activities. She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter JD, numerous bridge clubs, cards groups, and danced with Bob with the Penguin Club. In her spare time, Grace enjoyed sewing, doing word puzzles, watching wildlife, decorating, and shopping. She and Bob made several trips to areas of the United States after his retirement.

Grace was well known to have a heart of gold. She was proud of her 100% Norwegian heritage which promoted her strong work ethic and determination. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Kathleen and husband F.
