25 August 1880 ---- 11 September 1930

Charles Alvah Smith was born on the 25th day of August, 1880, in Serena, La Salle county, Ill. It was here that he lived until he was 18 years of age, moving with his parents in the year 1898 to La Porte, Tex. Residing here for seven years when he left his home and relatives for other fields of labor. Coming north, he migrated to Iowa and came to Wright county, making his home in Woolstock township. During the last three years he has lived on a farm one-half mile west of Eagle Grove, passing on to that undiscovered country, where there is a house not made with hands, whose builder and maker is God, eternal in the Heavens and from whose bounds no traveler returns, at the age of 50 years, 17 days.

In his passing we shall miss the friendship of a kind and faithful brother. For the last seven years it has been a pleasure for his pastor to have known him. Always when approached he was willing to do what he could to help a good cause. The more you learned to know him the more you learned to love him.

He leaves to mourn his departure his beloved wife, one son, Earl, two daughters, Mrs. Harvey Hamer of Eagle Grove, and Marie of Des Moines. Three brothers, George of Woolstock, Wilbur and Wiley of La Porte, Tex., also a sister, Mrs. Olive Harris of La Porte, Tex. All were present with one grandson and a host of friends.

Sometime when all life's lessons
have been learned
And sun and stars have forever set,
And we shall see how all God's
plans are right,
The things oér which we grieve
with lashes wet,
Will flash before us out of life's
dark night
As stars shine most in darker tints
of blue,
And we shall see how God's plans
are right
And how what seems reproof was
love most true.

Services were held at the M. E. church at Eagle Grove with Rev. William Baddeley in charge, assisted by Rev. Muhleman. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery at Eagle Grove.
