Annie Elizabeth Wright was born at Cambridgeport, Mass., November 16, 1863, to Andrew and Mary Wright. She was the 6th child in a family of eight, all of whom preceded her. With her family she came to Iowa in 1869. The family stayed in Jones county for three years and came on to Wright county in 1872 and settled on land which is now included in the northern portion of Eagle Grove, Wright street and Montgomery street were named by her family. Montgomery was her mother's maiden name. It is believed that she was the last resident of Eagle Grove who lived here when the town was organized.

She received her schooling in the country schools and at Humboldt Academy. Later she taught in the schools of Troy township and in Eagle Grove. July 10, 1889, she was united in marriage to Carl W. Thorup. To this union was born one child, Dr. Donald W. Thorup, now of Benton Harbor, Mich. Her husband, Carl, died in February, 1922.

Annie W. Thorup was always active in the affairs of the community and will be remembered by a large circle of friends. She was especially active in the First Congregational church of Eagle Grove, of which her parents were charter members, and for many years taught the Fidelity Sunday School class. She was also a member of Eagle Chapter 14, Order of the Eastern Star, past president of the Equality club, Woman's Relief Corps, and the W.C.T.U.

She moved to Benton Harbor, Mich. in 1940, where she has since made her home. There she was active in the First Congregational church and taught a Sunday School class. She was also active in the Eastern Star and Red Cross.

Her death occurred at Benton Harbor on April 25, 1946, after an illness of five weeks. She is survived by one son, Dr. Donald W. Thorup, and two grandsons, Donald W. Thorup, Jr., and David M. Thorup, as well as many nephews, nieces, and other relatives.

Funeral services were at Wilson's chapel, Monday afternoon, in charge of Rev. Walter Ross. Music was furnished by Mrs. Justin Thebiay and Mrs. Frank Hall, with Mrs. Lysle Wilson as accompanist. The Eastern Star burial services were in charge of Mrs. E. H. Paine. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.

Those from out-of-town who were here for Mrs. Thorup's funeral were Dr. and Mrs. Donald W. Thorup of Benton Harbor, Mich., Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Cunningham and Peggy of Storm Lake, Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Pride of Ames, Mrs. Mae Hanson, Miss Bessie Hanson, and Walter Hanson of Goldfield, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hanson and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hanson of Kanawha.
