June 22, 1895 --- September 8, 1925

Stanley Clifford Schaeffer was born in Orangeville, Ill., June 22, 1895. He moved with his parents to Eagle Grove, Iowa, in 1899. Here he spent his early life and received his education. With his parents he moved to Avoca, Minn., enlisted in the U. S. navy and was assigned to the U. S. S. Mercury, where he remained till in 1919, when he was honorably discharged. He returned to Slayton, Minn., where he secured work. In the year 1924 he served as policeman and traffic officer. The Slayton newspaper paid him the highest tribute that was ever paid an officer of the law in that city. He was an active member of the Methodist church. He was also a member of the American Legion.

He died of pneumonia on Sept. 8, 1925, at the age of 30 years, 2 months and 16 days. He leaves to mourn his going his mother and three brothers, Lloyd and Robert of Avoca, and Frank of Staunchfield, Minn. The body was brought to Eagle Grove for burial. Services were conducted from the Methodist church on Sunday afternoon. The sermon was preached by W. G. Muhleman. The Clarence Shurtz Post of the American Legion turned out to do him military honors. Interment was made in the Troy Cemetery.
