March 7, 1857 --- June 3, 1925
Calvin Schaeffer, an esteemed citizen of Avoca, Minn., was born in Middleburg, Pa., March 7, 1857. He lived there until he was 18 years of age, when he came to Illinois. He spent some time in the western states where he helped in pioneer railroad construction. After several years he returned to Illinois, where at Rock Grove, he was united in marriage to Eveline Wagner on Jan. 19, 1882. To this union six children were born, Mrs. Maude Mapes and Clarence C, both deceased, Lloyd of Stanchfield, Minn., Frank, Stanley, and Robert all of Avoca.
In 1899 the family moved to the Troy vicinity, about five miles south of Eagle Grove, Iowa, where they lived for years greatly endearing themselves to the people of the community because of the lives which they lived and because of the interest which they took in the affairs of the community. Mr. Schaeffer was a member of and a worker in the M. E. church where he will be missed. The family moved to Avoca, where they have since resided.
Mr. Schaeffer was in good health up until Sunday, May 31, when he was taken critically ill and removed at once to the hospital where everything was done for him that could be done. He grew rapidly worse and passed away on the morning of Wednesday, June 3, 1925, at the age of 68 years, 2 months and 26 days.
Services were conducted over his body in the M. E. church at Avoca on Friday by Rev. Mr. Hall, assisted by Rev. J. E. Larsen. The body was then taken to Eagle Grove, Iowa, where services were held in the M. E. church on Saturday conducted by Rev. W. G. Muhleman. Interment was made in the Troy cemetery.
He leaves to mourn their loss, his wife, the sons already mentioned, three brothers, four sisters, and fifteen grandchildren.
