Carl W. Thorup was born Feb. 19, 1863, in Wisley, Schleswig-Holstein, Denmark. He came to this country at the age of nineteen, coming directly to this community. He went to school and worked on farms for the first few years, then coming to town he was employed by the Northwestern company and later became a rural mail carrier in which capacity he served for eighteen years.

He was united in marriage with Annie Wright, July 10, 1889. To this union was born one son, Donald Wright Thorup. He was instructed in the Lutheran church, in which he was confirmed at the age of fourteen, and to which belief he always continued his allegiance.

His death occurred Monday morning, February 6th, at the age of 58 years, 11 months and 13 days. Besides his wife and son he leaves two brothers, Henry, of Chicago, Ill., and Andrew of Danville, Calif., and one sister, May Hanson, of Goldfield, Iowa. The funeral services were in charge of Rev. H. Fay Tyler at the Congregational church Wednesday afternoon and interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.

Among those from out of town, present at the funeral were: Gilbert Henry of Grinnell; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Pride, of Ames; Mrs. Fred Bauer, of Webster City, and Mr. and Mrs. John Montgomery, of Goldfield.
