Arlene Ashmore, 100, of Ames, died of natural causes at Accura HealthCare in Ames on Jan. 21, 2018. A celebration of life will be at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at Accura HealthCare in Ames.
Arlene was born in Dows on Sept. 4, 1917, the daughter of Adolf and Emelia (Draves) Iverson. Residing in Story City and Ames throughout her life, Arlene worked for the Telephone Company and Iowa State Memorial Union. She was a regular volunteer at Heartland Senior Services of Story County, and a long-time member of Ascension Lutheran Church. Arlene loved to do yard work, take walks around Ames, and enjoyed watching her ISU Sports.
Arlene is survived by granddaughters, Michelle Sime (Scott Schoba) and Traci Brooks (Brian Towle); great-granddaughters, Alex Sime and Elizabeth Brooks; and son-in-law, Terry Bird. She was preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Emelia Iverson; brother, Elwood Iverson; sisters, Mamie Bauge, Viola Bergeson and Ilene Wilhelm; and daughter, Marlene Bird. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Arlene’s family.
