September 20, 1923 ---- January 23, 2018
Dolores Virginia Herman was born in Eagle Grove, Iowa to Willard and Florence Thomason on September 20, 1923. She entered Heaven’s gates on January 23, 2018.
Dolores had a secretarial career at Firestone for 18 years, but in her own words, “becoming a wife, a mother and a grandmother has been the most fulfilling experience.” She enjoyed camping, bowling, ballroom dancing, crocheting, reading and gardening. Dolores had quite the green thumb that was the envy of many of her family members. Her home was always filled with beautiful house plants and she kept her yard in bloom every summer. Pink roses were her favorite.
Dolores had an unwavering faith in God. She was a member of St. Paul Presbyterian Church in Johnston, Iowa. She enjoyed bible study groups and volunteering at church.
Dolores was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Austin A. Herman; two sisters, Phyllis Fyfe and Wilma Goetsch; two brothers, Dale and Orin Thomason and her grandson, Trace Herman. She is survived by her son, Steven Herman and his wife, Conni; her daughter, Karen Churchill; three grandchildren, Megan Ryan, Christina Herman and Austin Herman and two great-grandchildren, Morgan Ryan and William Ryan.
A Funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 26, 2018 at Iles Westover Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home. Interment will be at Glendale Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Spurgeon Manor, Dallas Center, IA. The family of Dolores Herman wishes to thank Spurgeon Manor and Hospice of the Midwest for their kindness and care.
