Alan James Wagner, the son of Arthur and Lucile (Gjerstad) Wagner, was born on December 14, 1954, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. He attended school in Eagle Grove, where he received awards for his trumpet playing (he even played TAPS for many military funerals), was a member of the Iowa All State Band and the Iowa Honor Band, was active in 4-H and FFA. Alan graduated in the "Class of 1973". Alan graduated from ISU in 1977 with a BA in Agricultural Education. Moving to Minnesota, he was a Vocational Agriculture instructor and FFA advisor in Winnebago-Delavan High Schools 1977-1980 and Buffalo Center Rake, Iowa for the 1980/81 school year. While teaching in Minnesota, Alan attended night classes, studying computer programming.

In the fall of 1981, Alan went to Minneapolis as an employee of Systematics Inc., a firm which provided complete data processing and programming for commercial banks throughout the United States. He has worked 35 years for the company now called Fidelity National Information Services. During his career, Alan lived in Burlington, Vermont; Cleveland, Ohio; New Jersey; Johnston, Iowa; Chicago, Illinois and back to Urbandale, Iowa. Alan enjoyed participating in and watching sports, hunting grouse on the Minnesota lumber trails, skiing in Colorado and Vermont and spending time with his family and friends.

Alan passed away on January 8, 2018, at the age of 63 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Art Wagner. He is survived by his mother, Lucile Wagner; brother, Arnie Wagner (Vicki); nephews, Andrew Wagner and Aaron Wagner (Bre) all of Eagle Grove and aunts, Marie Greene of Humboldt and Dorothy Anderson of Gowrie.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018, 2:00 p.m. at Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Rich Taylor officiating. Visitation is from 12:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family wishes that memorials be given to the charity of your choice.
