Roberta O. Bygness, 78, of Goldfield, died Monday, September 30, at Community Memorial Hospital in Clarion. Memorial services will be held Thursday, October 3, from United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield at 2 p.m. Rev. Ellen G. Brantley will officiate. Burial of the cremains will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield. Willim Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Roberta O. Procter was born April 26, 1918, the daughter of Robert and Faye (Cummings) Procter at Alpha. She graduated from Alpha High School and attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette; continuing her education at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. On January 5, 1945, she was united in marriage to Harrold Bygness at Alpha. She taught school at Woolstock and Goldfield and was also a homemaker for her family.

Roberta worked for Social Services in Clarion for many years. She loved to paint, work with crafts, work in her garden, and enjoyed flowers. She was a member of United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield, The Emma Henry Church Circle, Sewing Club, Daughters of American Revolution, and the American Legion Auxiliary in Goldfield.

Survivors include her husband Harrold, of Goldfield; two sons - Robert Bygness and wife Coralie of Tempe, Arizona; Roger Bygness and wife Jeanne of Bowlus, Minnesota; four daughters - Palma Bygness of Plant City, Florida; Janice and husband Jon Rowen of Eagle Grove; Carolyn Bygness of Coralville; daughter, Joyce and husband Ronald Mosher of Des Moines; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Jon Edward Rowen in 1980.
