Arthur L. Gronwall was born at Algona June 2, 1901, and was the son of Lars A. and Anna Guldburg Gronwall. He graduated from Algona High School. He and Jessie Irene Daggett were united in marriage in Clarion on Christmas Day in 1923. He was the fuel tank man for the Farmers Elevator for 37 years. He retired in 1963. After retirement, he operated a fire extinguisher business for many years. In 1943, he joined the Clarion Volunteer Fire Department and served as chief for 10 years and treasurer for 30 years. He also taught first aid for 40 years.
Arthur L. Gronwall, 92, Clarion, died Thursday morning, March 24, 1994, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Clarion where he had been a patient since February 25. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; two sisters; his son, Raymond in 1981, and his wife in 1987. He is survived by his daughter, Evelyn Swanson of North Chicago, Ill.; five grandchildren, Kathy Larson, Woodward; Kevin Swanson, Waukegan, Ill.; Karen Fermaint, Waukegan, Ill.; Kim McCart, Clarion; and Karla Olson, Eagle Grove; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, March 26 from the Chapel at Willim Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Kellogg officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery with the Clarion Fire Department serving as honorary and active casket bearers.
