Carl Mathias Gord was born June 21, 1901, the son of Swend and Klara Gord at Haugesund, Norway. He received his education in Norway and worked as a cabinet maker at the age of 16. He later worked as a seaman on a freighter ship before coming to America at the age of 21. He settled in the Goldfield area where he was engaged in farming. He was united in marriage to Catherine Angeline Bromley of Eagle Grove, February 1, 1946, at the Sacred Heart Rectory in Eagle Grove. The couple made their home on a farm near Thor, before moving to their rural Eagle Grove farm. Mrs. Gord died in 1983.

Carl Mathias Gord died October 1, 1992, at the Clarion Health Care Center in Clarion, at the age of 91 years, three months and 10 days of age. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and several brothers, and sisters. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, David and Linda Gord of Eagle Grove; and two granddaughters, Karen of Des Moines; and Colleen, at home.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 5, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove. The Rev. Wayne Droessler officiated at the 10:30 a.m. services, and burial was in the Calvary Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Kastler-Babcock Services, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
