Elwood Eugene Middleton was born December 26, 1919, the son of Homer and Lena Vike Middleton in rural Wright County. He received his education in the Eagle Grove school system, and graduated from the Eagle Grove High School in 1938. He was united in marriage to Rosetta Jergensen of Eagle Grove on June 15, 1941, at the Asbury United Methodist Church, Webster City. The couple made their home on the Middleton family farm, south of Eagle Grove, and have lived there since that time. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove.

Elwood Middleton died at the Hamilton County Public Hospital following a short illness on September 29, 1992. He had attained the age of 72 years, nine months, and three days. He was preceded in death by his father, Homer; a granddaughter, JoAnn Riley; and a son-in-law, Norman Riley. He is survived by his wife; three zgsons, Dwight of Webster City; Greg of Goldfield; and Steve of Eagle Grove; three daughters, Mrs. Dale (Vicki) Jorgensen and Mrs. David (Linda) Gord, both of Eagle Grove; and Mrs. Patrick (Kay) Schnurr of Fort Dodge; his mother, Lena Middleton; one brother, Jack and a sister, Darlene Middleton, all of Eagle Grove; 22 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held October 3 at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove. The Rev. Scott C. Hall officiated at the 10:30 a.m. services. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Kastler-Babcock Services, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
