February 4, 1926 -- October 1, 1992

CENTERVILLE - Alvin Floyd Huisman, 66, of Centerville died Oct. 1, 1992, at St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital in Centerville. He was born Feb. 4, 1926, in Parkersburg to William T. and Tena Getting Huisman. He married Vivian Rutz on Sept. 4, 1945, in Collinsville, Ill. He received his undergraduate degree from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and his master’s from the University of Northern Iowa. He was a coach, teacher and educator for 39 years, the last 27 years as superintendent of Goldfield Community Schools in Goldfield. He and his wife retired to the Lake Rathbun area. He was a member of the United Methodist church and American Legion. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and sports fan. He is survived by his father William of Parkersburg; his wife; two sons, William R. of Centerville and Rodrick A. of Fort Dodge; a sister, Laverne Everts of Parkersburg; and two brothers, Donald and Delbert of Parkersburg. He was preceded in death by his mother and an infant sister and a nephew Floyd.

Memorial services will be 1 p. m. today at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville, the Rev. Dave Higdon officiating Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at United Methodist Church in Goldfield, the Rev. James Rozendahl officiating. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield. Memorials may be made to United Methodist Church or the new Babe Ruth field in Centerville.
