Laura Josephine Middleton, the daughter of John P., and Mary Harpham was born October 4, 1859 at Havana, Illinois. With her parents she came to Wright County as a small child and lived on the farm which is now operated by Henry Larsen. Here she grew to womanhood and she inherited the family taste for literature and good reading. She became a teacher and for many years she was a teacher, first in Iowa and later in Colorado. While in Colorado she taught school and homesteaded on a piece of land.
She was married to Allen Middleton in 1905. She moved into the home on South Cadwell which she occupied until about two years ago. Mr. Middleton passed away in 1910. During the two years since she left her own home she has lived in the Creek home and the Alva Slaikeu home.
She was a care taker of sick people of the community during a part of her active life. She is survived by nieces and nephews in this vicinity.
She passed away Saturday afternoon, July 12, 1947 at the Slaikeu home, and the services for her were in the Methodist church Monday afternoon July 14, 1947. The singers were Delores McVicker and Mrs. Burdette Middleton, with Mrs. Geo. DeForest as the organist. The Rev. Clarence W. Tompkins conducted the service and the burial was at Rose Hill cemetery.
