Glen L. Lewis, Sr. of Olathe, KS passed away March 9, 2015 at the Olathe Hospice House. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 12th at the McGilley & Frye Funeral Home, 105 E. Loula St., Olathe, KS. Burial in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 a.m. Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Glen was born November 5, 1913 in Goldfield, IA the son of Wilson Herbert & Ivalie Stella Wilhelm Lewis. He joined the Navy at 16 years old and literally saw the world. He served on 11 navy vessels (USS New York, USS Oglala, USS Breese, USS Lark, USS Melville, USS Selfridge, USS Hatfield, USS Raleigh, USS Barney, USS Catocton & USS Sidonia) and was stationed at various bases in the US & overseas, with his last assignment being at the old Naval Air Station in Olathe, KS where he retired in 1951 after 23 years of service. He later joined Bendix in Kansas City, MO and retired after 24 years of service.

Glen married Mattie Ruth Doyle from Ravenel, SC on March 30, 1940 and they were married for over 50 years before she died in 1991. They had three children: two boys & one daughter; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Glen was preceded in death by his parents, brother Virgil and three sisters; Naomi, Iris & Marjorie. He leaves behind one brother (Gene) and one sister (Bonnie), both from Goldfield, IA. Glen is survived by his sons; Glen LeRoy Lewis, Jr (Rose Marie) & Donald Eugene Lewis (Rudie) and his daughter, Ruth Ann Lewis Perez (Tony); grandchildren Gregory Warren Lewis (Lisa), Bradley Jason Lewis (Julie), Sybill Lewis McDowell (Kurt), Max Allen Strausbaugh, Jr. & Crystal Nicole Strausbaugh; great grandchildren, Zachary DeWayne Bartusek, Aaron Bradley Lewis, Ella Rose Lewis, Matthew Gregory Lewis, Raygen Taylor Lewis & Hudson Gregory McDowell.

Glen was "Grandpa Lewis" to numerous families over the years (Sharons, McGuires, Brinks, Youngs, & Winfreys to name a few) who resided on North Keeler St. He loved to read sitting in his car on his driveway taking in the sunshine. He was also a ham radio operator and his call sign was WODLC.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Memorial contributions be made to the Olathe Medical Center Hospice House, 20375 W. 151st St., Suite 363, Olathe, KS 66061.
