Oscar Askelson was born February 28, 1876 at Stavanger, Norway, and died at the Lutheran hospital at Fort Dodge, Iowa, December 30, 1947, at the age of 71 years, 10 months and 2 days. He received the Christian baptism, was taught the way of salvation in Jesus Christ, and confessed the Christian faith in his youth. At about the age of 14 years he came to America, to Leland, Ill. And on July 3, 1905 he was united in marriage to Miss Anna J. Kvale, at Leland.
Mr. and Mrs. Askelson lived in the vicinity of Leland, Illinois on their farm home, until they moved to Badger, Iowa in 1916. And in 1920 they moved to Eagle Grove. The last 14 years they have lived on their farm home near Woolstock, Iowa, where Mrs. Askelson passed away October 9, 1943. He is now survived by their three sons, Howard, Arthur and Kenneth, and their daughter, Mrs. Gladys Knutson, all of Woolstock, Iowa. Also by two grandchildren, and by one brother, Harold Schultz of Washington, and by one sister, Mrs. Rachel Gustaveson, Chicago, Ill., and by a large number of nephews and nieces, and a large number of friends.
Mr. Askelson was an unassuming and quiet man, a good husband and father, an industrious farmer, and a progressive citizen. He was for many years a member of the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church. For sometime his health has gradually been failing, for about two weeks he was cared for at the hospital, until he quietly slept away.
Funeral services were held Friday January 2, 1948, from the Kastler Funeral Home, and the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial was made in the family lot at the Rose Hill cemetery.
