December 20, 1881 ---- October 9, 1943

Anna J. Kvale was born to the parents, Lars and Marie Kvale, December 20, 1881, at Mandal, near Kristiansand, Norway, and died at the hospital in Webster City, Iowa, Saturday morning, Oct. 9, 1943 at the age of 60 years, 9 months and 19 days. She received the Christian baptism, was taught the way of salvation in Christ Jesus, and confessed her Christian faith in her youth.

At the age of about 15 years, she came to America, to Leland, Ill., where she was united in marriage to Oscar Askelson July 3, 1905. Mr. and Mrs. Askelson lived on their farm home in that vicinity until they moved to near Badger, Iowa, in 1916, and in 1920 they came to Eagle Grove. The past 10 years they lived on their farm near Woolstock.

She is now survived by her husband, Oscar Askelson, and by daughter, Mrs. Gladys Knutson, Eagle Grove, and by three sons, Howard Askelson, Woolstock; Arthur Askelson, in military service in the United States Navy; and Kenneth at home. She is also survived by one grandchild, Elain Alice Askelson. Also by one sister, Mrs. Emma Sheafer of Waterman, Ill., and as far as known by one sister still in Norway.

Mrs. Askelson was a patient parson. For a period of about eight years she bore her suffering patiently, seeking medical aid where she thought it might be found. But her best help was no doubt found at the feet of the cross of Jesus Christ, who is after all the only real helper in all our trials. She was a kind wife and mother. She appreciated heartily what her family did for her.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 12 from the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church, and burial was made in the Rose Hill cemetery.
