Wilbur Herman Heslop was born September 4, 1905, to Walter and Mary Boehrnse Heslop at Eagle Grove, Iowa. On April 7,1926, he was married to Mae Ethel Akins. They made their home in Eagle Grove during the 51 years of their marriage. Wilbur served in World War II with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific. He was a member of the American Legion. Before his retirement he was a police officer for the City of Eagle Grove. He suffered a broken hip July 9, 1977, and was taken to the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines where he remained until the first of December. At that time he was transferred to a nursing home in Ames. On December 15 he was admitted to the Veterans Hospital where he passed away the same day.
He leaves his wife, Mae; one son, Wilbur Heslop, Jr., Cambridge, Ia.; also two brothers: Harry Heslop of Ames and Edward Heslop of Eagle Grove. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 19 at l:30 p.m. at Kastler-Babcock-DeYoung Funeral Home, Eagle Grove. Rev. Charles Dutton of the First Baptist Church officiated and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
