Ernest Carl Hinrichsen was born October 10, 1909, the son of Henry and Anna Guse Hinrichsen at Saybrook, Ill. He received his education in Illinois and Moorland, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Eleanor O. Larson of Eagle Grove, May 9, 1932, at Fort Dodge. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove where he farmed for seven years. He later became an engineer for the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad and following 30 years of service, he retired in 1973.

He was a member of the Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove; the Eagle Grove Planning and Zoning Commission; as well as the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.

Ernest Hinrichsen died following an extended illness at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge, January 27,1992, at the age of 82 years, three months and 17 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Eugene; one brother, Harold; and one granddaughter, Pamela Hanson. He is survived by his wife, two sons, Willert, Cincinnati, Ohio; and Dale, Coralville; three daughters, Mrs. Roland (Joanne) Pohlman, Webster City, Mrs. Stephen (Beverly) Hanson, Osceola, and Ruth Brock, of Arlington, Texas; 12 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Vernon (Lillie) Gronbach, Clear Lake; Mrs. Vergil (Viola) Jacobsen; and Mrs. Olaf (Edna) Amdahl, both of Eagle Grove.

Funeral services were held January 30 at the Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with the Rev. Carlton Shaw officiated at the 1:30 p.m. services. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
