October 14, 1860 --- June 19, 1900

Mr. Leyson died at his home in this city Tuesday noon of consumption. He had just returned from California where he had been hoping to realize a benefit from the climate but his expectations were not realized.

The funeral of Herbert Leyson was held Thursday noon in the Methodist church of which he was a member. Rev. F. W. Ginn conducted the ceremonies and preached the sermon. The remains were taken to Sutherland for burial accompanied by a number of the friends of the family. His mother [Hannah Olmstead Leyson, wife of Howell Leyson], wife, and three children survive him. He was nearly 40 years of age at his death, was born in De Kalb Co., Ill. and in 1882 was married to Miss Etta Powell and in 1886 moved to Sutherland, Ia., where they lived until they moved to Eagle Grove in 1890.
