Edna Mae Wood Newcomb

October 5, 1887 --- June 9, 1974

Edna Mae Wood was born October 5, 1887 at Monticello, Wisc., the daughter of Ed and Amelia Wallace Wood. She attended school at Rolfe and graduated from Eagle Grove High School. She worked for a time in the office of Dr. C. H. Morse, and for Atwood-Fort and Baker, Dry Goods Store. On February 7, 1912, she was united in marriage to Edwin C. Newcomb of Eagle Grove, in Ft. Dodge. The couple lived on a farm near Eagle Grove until they retired and moved to Eagle Grove in 1947.

Mrs. Newcomb entered Trinity West Hospital, Ft. Dodge, May 29 and passed away there on Sunday, June 9, at the age of 86 years, 8 months and 4 days. She is survived by her husband, two sons: Monroe Newcomb, Eagle Grove, and Donald Newcomb, Eagle Grove; two daughters: Norma, Mrs. Paul Ringer, Fayetteville, N.C.; and Dorothy, Mrs. Carroll Helgevold, Eagle Grove; a half brother, Harold Wood, Sioux City; 21 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister, and four half sisters.

Mrs. Newcomb was a member of the United Methodist Church, Eagle Grove, the Worthwhile Class, Troy Culture Club and the Woolstock Homemakers.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 12, at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Eagle Grove. Rev. Donald Glazier officiated and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
