Borghild Orsland Wingaard
July 31, 1909 --- February 18, 2006

Borghild Wingaard, 96, of Eagle Grove, died February 18, 2006, at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove. Borghild was interred in Rose Hill Cemetery on February 23, 2006. Survivors her three children: Lavonne, of Clear Lake; James Wingaard and Roger Wingaard of Eagle Grove; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, four greatgreat-grandchildren, and several great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Nadine Winter, brother Norman (Thelma) Arne, a sister Anna (Martin) Norem, and nephews Don and Tom Arne, Sr.

Borghild Orsland Wingaard was born July 31, 1909 in Eagle Grove, the daughter of Nels and Olena Arne. Olena died before Borghild was one year old. Her sister Anna and brother Norman Arne were sent to live with relatives. Henry and Greta Orsland, neighbors, adopted Borghild. They also raised Lavonne. She was baptised and confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. T. J. Severtson, long-time pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. On August 17, 1930, she married Fran [Ivan] Peder Wingaard. They farmed south of Goldfield (the Evergreen Community) until the farm burned in 1931. They moved back to Eagle Grove where she lived the rest of her life. She entered the south building of Rotary Ann on April 16, 1998 and later moved to the north building. She liked bingo, loved chocolate, read avidly, spoke Norwegian fluently, was grateful for Jimmy, appreciated the help of Vance and Tommy. Her grandchildren loved her and she loved them. The Foust Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.
