Funeral Rites Held for Fred Schroder

Mr. Fred W. Schroder, 55, passed away at his home three miles south of Galt early Friday morning. He had been ill two weeks and was a victim of heart trouble. The funeral was held at the Bethel church Sunday afternoon at two o'clock and was in the charge of his pastor the Rev. Cox. Interment was in the German Lutheran Cemetery. Those acting as pallbearers were: Willis Nelson, Walter Blankenship, Homer Lord, Hiram Lord, William Howell and Tom Norfleet. The Quartette that sang so beautiful were: Mrs. Hills Kersey, Mr. and Mrs. Lee State and Edward Nelson.

Frederick William Schroder was born in Prentzlow, Germany July 15, 1875 and departed this life February 20, 1931 aged 55 years, 7 months and 15 days. He was the eldest of a family of nine children, eight sons and one daughter, whose parents Herman and Wilhelmina Schroder, wee early settlers in Wright County.

On March 8, 1898 he was united in marriage to Matilda Duden of Williams, Iowa. They established their home on a farm three miles south of Galt where they have always resided. To this union was born six daughters and four sons, one daughter, Nellie preceded him in death in infancy. the surviving members of the family are: his wife, Mrs. Lena Carstens, Mrs. Minnie Denger, of Galt; Harry of Dows; Mrs. Gertrude Scott of Blairsburg; Mrs. Caroline Goodsell of Webster City; Mrs. Fern Blankenship of Galt; Marion, Ernest and Earl who live at home and eight grandchildren. Also his aged mother, seven brothers and one sister: Albert of Galt, John of Blairsburg, Otto of Lake Park, Frank, Will, Herman, Ernest and Mrs. Martha Denger all of Galt, and a host of friends.

Mr. Schroder was converted, baptized and united with the church of God at Bethel in young manhood and was a faithful, zealous servant of God. Words cannot express his untiring efforts in the service of his Master. He filled official capacities in the church being an elder at the close of his life's service. Mr. Schroder was a faithful companion and a loving father.

Those who attended the funeral from a distance were: Mrs. George Knopp of Lincoln, Nebraska: August Duden, Mr. and Mrs. Will Duden, Will Carstens and family all of Williams, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. John Duden, Gladbrook; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Olmstead and two sons of Webster City; Mr. and Mrs. Otto Schroder of Lake Park; Mr. and Mrs. Will Kreitlow of Crystal Lake; Mrs. John Kneodler and son of Britt; Gus Stroberg and son of Osage, Iowa.
