Charles H. McKinney, D.O.
Company D, 8th Regiment, Ohio Infantry – Spanish - American War

June 18, 1875 ----- August 23, 1921

Chas H. McKinney was born June 18, 1875, at Wooster, Ohio, and died August 23, 1921, in Omaha, Neb., being 46 years, 2 months and 5 days old. He spent his early life in Wooster and after finishing high school attended the Ohio University. After this he took up the study of osteopathy and practiced for 15 years in Pittsburgh, Pa., until his health failed. He was married December [October] 6th, 1905, to Florence Waddell and to this union were born two children, Jack aged 15, and Dorothy, aged 12. Besides his wife and two children he leaves one sister, Mrs. J. J. O'Donahue of Rock Springs. Wyo., and Wm. McKinney of Ogden, Utah, both of whom were present at the funeral. The funeral was held in this city on last Friday afternoon at the home of Mr. Thos. Waddell, a brother on West Broadway. Mrs. McKinney was formerly Miss Florence Waddell of this city and is well known to many of our older citizens. She has the distinction of being the first child born in Eagle Grove. She graduated from our high school and afterward attended college in Kirksville, Mo. It was there she met Dr. McKinney.

Rev. Tyler conducted the funeral services and at the cemetery before the committal services recited the following beautiful lines from Whittier:

"Alas for him who never sees
The stars shine through his cypress trees,
Who hopeless lays his dead away,
Nor looks to see the breaking day
Across the mournful marble play
Who hath not learned in hours of faith,
The truth, to flesh and sense unknown.
That life is ever host of death,
And love can never lose her own"
